कामाख्या मंदिर, असम की राजधानी दिसपुर (गुवाहाटी) से करीब 7 किलोमीटर दूर शक्तिपीठ नीलांचल पर्वत से 10 किलोमीटर दूर स्थित है. कामाख्या मंदिर सभी शक्तिपीठों का महापीठ माना जाता है.
कामाख्या मंदिर में स्थित कुंड
इस मंदिर में देवी दुर्गा या मां अम्बे की कोई मूर्ति या चित्र दिखाई नहीं देता है जबकि मंदिर में एक कुंड बना है जो कि हमेशा फूलों से ढ़का रहता है. इस कुंड से हमेशा ही पानी निकलता रहता है. इस प्राचीन मंदिर में देवी की योनि की पूजा की जाती है और योनी भाग के यहां होने से माता यहां रजस्वला भी होती हैं.

कामाख्या मंदिर में हर साल यहां अम्बुबाची मेला लगता है जिसके दौरान यहां स्थित ब्रह्मपुत्र का पानी तीन दिन के लिए लाल हो जाता है. यह किसी चमत्कार से कम नहीं है. माना जाता है कि पानी का यह लाल रंग कामाख्या देवी के मासिक धर्म के कारण होता है. इसके 3 दिन बाद दर्शन के लिए यहां भक्तों की भीड़ मंदिर में उमड़ पड़ती है.

बताते चले कि मंदिर में श्रद्धालुओं को बहुत ही अजीबो गरीब प्रसाद दिया जाता है. दूसरे शक्तिपीठों की अपेक्षा कामाख्या देवी मंदिर में प्रसाद के रूप में लाल रंग का गीला कपड़ा दिया जाता है.

पौराणिक मान्यताओं के अनुसार, जब मां कामाख्या को तीन दिन का रजस्वला (Periods) होता है, तो सफेद रंग का कपडा मंदिर के अंदर बिछा दिया जाता है. तीन दिन बाद जब मंदिर के दरवाजे खोले जाते हैं, तब वह वस्त्र माता के रज से भीगा होता है.इस कपड़ें को अम्बुवाची वस्त्र कहते है. इसे ही भक्तों को प्रसाद के रूप में दिया जाता है.

कामाख्या मंदिर भारत के सबसे प्राचीन मंदिरों में गिना जाता है और यह मंदिर बहुत लोकप्रिय भी है. कामाख्या मंदिर का उल्लेख कालिका पुराण, योगिनी तंत्र, शिव पुराण, बृहद्वधर्म पुराण में भी मिलता है.
मिली जानकारी के अनुसार, इस मंदिर का निर्माण 8 वीं और 9वीं शताब्दी के बीच किया गया था लेकिन हुसैन शाह ने आक्रमण कर मंदिर को नष्ट कर दिया था.
कामाख्या मंदिर में मां कामाख्या की योनि का पूजन
सन 1500 ईस्वी के दौरान राजा विश्वसिंह ने मंदिर को पूजा स्थल के रूप में पुनर्जीवित किया था.
इसके बाद सन 1565 ईसवी में राजा के बेटे ने इस मंदिर का पुनर्निर्माण कराया था. कामाख्या मंदिर में दूर-दूर से लोग दर्शन करने के लिए पहुंचते हैं.

हिंदू धार्मिक पुराणों के अनुसार माना जाता है कि भगवान भोलेनाथ का माता सती के प्रति मोह भंग करने के लिए भगवान विष्णु ने अपने च्रक से माता सती के 51 टूकड़े कर दिए थे जिसके बाद पृथ्वी पर जहां- जहां ये टुकड़े गिरे वहां-वहां शक्तिपीठ बन गया. उनमें से एक कामाख्या मंदिर भी है क्योंकि इस स्थान पर माता की योनि गिरी थी. यही वजह है कि कामाख्या मंदिर में माता की योनि का पूजन होता है और रज ( blood of Periods) से भीगा हुआ कपड़ा प्रसाद ने दिया जाता है.

2 – बस सेवा- पल्टन बाजार, अदबारी और आई.एस.बी.टी. बस स्टाप से असम और आसपास के शहरों – लोकल के गांव के लिए बस की सेवा उपलब्ध हैं. आप बस से भी कामाख्या मंदिर जा सकते हैं.
3- रेल सेवा- गुवाहाटी में कामाख्या नाम से स्टेशन है जो गुवाहाटी का दूसरा सबसे बड़ा रेलवे स्टेशन है. यहां पहुँचकर आप बस या टैक्सी से कामाख्या मंदिर जा सकते हैं.
